Earth Lovers Weekend

“There are a thousand ways to kneel and kiss the ground. There are a thousand ways to go home again.”
— Rumi
Introduction
In this ceremonial weekend, we’ll seek to deepen our reverent, reciprocal relationship with Mother Earth, so we can infuse our environmental guardianship with LOVE.
We are willing to protect what we deeply love.
With constant reports of forests burning, ice melting, storms raging, climate changing… Our human hearts are breaking with grief for Mother Earth. There is a good amount of fear, despair, and hopelessness, as well.
The problem is, because the crisis is so overwhelming, we are emotionally constipated. We avoid “going there.” Instead, we get mad. Distracted. Numb. Or busy. Perhaps we feel sad for a moment, then push the feelings away.
But if we are to make it through this Great Turning, we must go there.
When we engage Solastalgia (environmental grief) in a healthy way, a great clarity arises about what is ours to do. On the other side of grief are a plethora of blessings that are not available to those who avoid and deflect: BIG LOVE, DEEP JOY, and OCEANIC COMPASSION.
More importantly, we find the courage to take action.
The good news is, grief is not a bottomless pit; it is a transformative tunnel. Emptying ourselves of tears clears the way for Divine Light to shine through us, in us, as us.
When the tears are cleared away, we have room in our hearts to celebrate, enjoy, and create intimacy with our beloved Mother Earth.
“The depth of your grief is the measure of your love.”
— Joanna Macy
